HISTORIC POLISH CHURCH PILGRIMAGE AND SWIECONKA (POLISH EASTER DINNER)

The West Side Detroit Polish American Historical Society is pleased to announce its Second Annual West Side Detroit Historic Polish Church Pilgrimage and Swieconka! The date for the event is Saturday, April 18, 2009.

Schedule

9:30 – 10:00: Registration: St. Hedwig – 3245 Junction, Detroit
10:00 – 10:15: Introduction: St. Hedwig
10:15 – 10:40: St. Hedwig: Presentation & Prayer
10:55 – 11:20: St. Francis d’Assisi – 4500 Wesson, Detroit: Presentation & Prayer
11:35 – 12:00: St. Stephen – Mary Mother of the Church – 4311 Central, Detroit: Presentation & Prayer
1:00 – 1:30: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel – 976 Pope John Paul II Ave., Wyandotte: Presentation & Prayer
1:30 – 3:30: Swieconka (Traditional Polish Easter meal) – Biddle Hall, 3239 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte
3:45 – 4:15: St. Stanislaus Kostka – 266 Antoine St., Wyandotte: Presentation & Prayer
5:15: Arrive back at St. Hedwig.
Parking will be secure in the St. Hedwig church parking lot.
Small pamphlets with brief historical summaries of each church, along with church location, current pastor’s name, and Mass schedule will be distributed prior to departure. At each church, there will be a brief presentation by a WSDPAHS member on the history of the church. Either a hymn will be sung, one decade of the rosary said, or Divine Mercy prayer recited at each church.

(Optional Confession at 5:30 p.m. at St. Stephen. A Spanish Mass is held at 7 p.m.)
(If we arrive back to Detroit early, those wishing to attend English Mass in Detroit
may attend 5:00 p.m. Mass at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 4200 Martin, just south of
Michigan Ave.)

Distinguished Guest at Swieconka

Our guest priest will bless the food at the Swieconka prior to the meal.

Transportation

Several comfortable coaches have been reserved through Trinity Coach of Wyandotte again this year, as was the case last year. The coaches are larger than last year but are heated and have upholstered seats. They are easily accessible for the elderly or for individuals with mobility issues. (The coaches DO NOT have wheelchair lifts and ARE NOT handicap-accessible.)



NOTE: In the event of a funeral at any church, the pilgrimage group will remain outside.

Swieconka (Traditional Polish Easter Meal)

Biddle Hall is newly renovated and our hosts are anxious to please! The hall is handicap-accessible.

Menu: Kielbasa and ham, potato salad, tossed green salad, beet horseradish (cwikla), bread, butter lambs, dessert (variety of cakes, or babkas), and beverages (choice of coffee, hot tea, iced tea, milk, or Coke beverages).

Tickets and Reservations

Tickets are by advance reservation only and are $35 per person for the pilgrimage and luncheon, or $15 per person for the luncheon only (participants would provide their own transportation to Wyandotte). Children under 12 may attend the pilgrimage and luncheon for $25, or the luncheon only for $9. Pilgrimage only: $25, adults/children. Reservations will be held at the door at St. Hedwig and no tickets will be mailed.
Reservations must be paid for in advance by no later than Wednesday, April 8. Checks or money orders should be made payable to WSDPAHS and mailed to Laurie Palazzolo, 32101 Shiawassee Road, Farmington, MI 48336.
