St. Florian Catholic Church
Established 1907                                   Hamtramck, Michigan
St. Florian was founded in 1907 with the first pastor being Rev. Bernard Zmijewski who was an immigrant from Poznan.  ground was broken for the first church in March 1908 and the cornerstone was dedicated January 10, 1909.

The many immigrants that settled in Hamtramck and worked the local automobile plants donated $500,000 in pre-Depression dollars to build  a second larger church in the 1920s.

Construction started in January 1926 and was dedicated on October 21, 1928. The church rises eight stories towards the heavens and is Gothic style with twin spires.

The stained glass windows, including the hugh Rose window in the rear of the church, were made in Reading, PA.  The giant pipe organ was built in Detroit. The main and side altars are decorated withreal gold leaf.

The altar windows depict five Polish saints - Casimir, Florian, Hedwig, Hyacinth and Stanislaus - while the nave windows illustrate the life and teachings of Christ.
