St. Josaphat Catholic Church
Established 1886 Canfield and Chrysler Freeway
St. Josaphat was founded on June 1, 1889. It was the third Polish-speaking parish established in the city of Detroit. It was
founded in response to irregularities and disagreements in the neighboring parishes of Sweetest Heart of Mary and St. Albertus.
On February 2, 1890, the first combination church and school was dedicated. In 1901 this late Victorian Romanesque church was
completed. Seating capacity is 1200.
Mass is celebrated at St. Josaphat every Sunday at 9:30 AM according to the Tridentine
Mass in Latin. See
