Joint Meeting with Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan

            May 17, 2008 – Dearborn Heights

The Board of Directors of the West Side Detroit Polish American Historical Society is pleased to announce the program and location for the WSDPAHS’s annual joint meeting with the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan!  The program and location have been changed due to unforeseen circumstances and a scheduling conflict with St. Francis d’Assissi Catholic Church.

The program that has been planned is on the history of the Polish National Catholic Church, with an exciting guest speaker, Ms. Stephanie Marsh, current organist and music director of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church at 2311 Pulaski Street in Hamtramck.  Ms. Marsh will speak on the beliefs and practices of the Polish National Catholic Church, and as an added bonus for genealogists, Ms. Marsh will discuss the locations where the P.N.C.C. buries their dead.  She will bring a display and also will bring her keyboard and will play some hymns that are distinctive to the P.N.C.C.

The May 17 joint meeting with PGSM will be held at the beautiful new Caroline Kennedy branch of the Dearborn Heights Library at 24590 George, three blocks west of Telegraph Road and two blocks north of Ford Road. The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will run until 3:30 p.m., with a buffet DESSERT table included.  Admission is free and is open to the public, but we ask that those attending bring a dessert dish for our buffet.

It was originally planned to hold the joint meeting at historic St. Francis d’Assissi and to have as the program a history of that church.  However, we are equally excited to announce this exciting program on the history of the P.N.C.C., and we are optimistic that we will be able to schedule a separate event for our members at historic St. Francis d’Assissi in the near future.

Historic St. Francis d’Assissi IS on our schedule for the April 5 pilgrimage of historic west side Polish churches, followed by our Swieconka at Our Lady Queen of Angels at 3 p.m., AND the pilgrimage group WILL be proceeding INSIDE of St. Francis d’Assissi!  We hope that as many of you as are able will join us on April 5!  (A schedule/reservation form is posted and available for downloading from our Web site at www.detroitpolonia.org.)

We promise you an exciting and informative afternoon with PGSM, and we thank the board of PGSM for their friendship and continued support of WSDPAHS’s initiatives!  Mark your calendars, save the date, bring a dessert to share, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Dziekuje bardzo!

Wesolego Alleluja!
